Department Activities

Succesfully trained 11 batches of students at the undergraduate level in dental materials, its application and clinical prosthodontics. Succesfully trained 22 students at the postgraduate level and is at present traning 15 students in the speciality of prosthodontics. The postgraduate training is schedueled for a period of 3 years and intensely covers all disciplines of prosthodontics, short term research projects, paper presentation and publications. Actively engaged in the development of the department of implantology and research in dental ceramics.

Department Activities

Screening patients who may benefit from Orthognathic surgery are directed to the Dentofacial programme and their treatment planning and consultation is performed with both orthodontic and oral surgery faculty. The department of oral & maxillofacial surgery renders services pertaining to the oral cavity and surrounding facial skeleton. The services rendered are :

Out patient Services :
Extractions Minor oral surgical procedures Biopsy. Removal of impacted wisdom teeth. Wiring of luxated teeth.

Inpatient Services :
The department is attached to general hospital with In-patient ward facilities and separate operation theatre for performing major surgical procedures. The procedures performed under General Anesthesia are Trauma to facial skeleton Tumour & cancer surgeries Orthognathie Surgeries ( Jaw Corrections Surgeries ) TMJ Surgeries The department also has a separate cleft & craniofacial unit functioning with it.

Department Activities

The department of periodontics is concerned with diagnosis and treatment of patients with periodontal diseases. Successfully trained many batches of third year and final year BDS students both clinically and theoretically in the field of periodontics. Conducts three year post-graduate program in periodontics. Conducts two year certificate course for dental hygienists. Trains the post-graduates in research projects, presenting papers and publications. we in our department strive to achieve the following goals Provide quality service and efficent oral health care Prepare graduates and post graduates as future clinicians and specialists in Orthodontics and Philosophically dedicate ourselves to foster a strong educational background in the subject both clinically and with the recent research methodologies to excel in patient care decisions and formulate a treatment plan based on principles and procedures that have both biological significance and clinical relevance. Patients accepted for treatment in the orthodontic clinic are allotted to staff & P. G. students appropriately. Each student treats approximately 40-50 cases comprising a wide variety of treatment modalities including interdisciplinary approaches.
Techniques Followed
The Begg Technique. The Pre-adjusted Edgewise Technique. The Tip-edge Technique. Functional Jaw Orthopedics. Surgical Orthopedics. Cleft orthodontics Screening patients requiring orthognathic surgery and conducting discussions and interact sessions with the department of Oral surgery for these patients to define the treatment need and the treatment plan for both Orthodontics and Surgical plan is a part of the routine coordinated treatment protocol. Treatment of patients with a variety of craniofacial anomalies predominantly the cleft lip and palate patients are coordinated through a team work. Appropriate orthodontic care is insituted to optimize the results in an efficient manner.

Department Activities

Pediatric Dentistry as a speciality focuses on the comprehensive oral health of the child as a whole. It emphasizes on preventive dental needs of the children promoting awareness among the public and children by conducting various dental health programme.
Basic and Advanced Facilities
In pediatric dentistry the office environment plays a major role in child's behaviour. Play area with varieties of soft toys and small chairs for the kids. Television with a VCD player in which cartoon movies are played every day to provide a child friendly atmosphere in the department. In house operation theatre to perform dental procedures under sedation and general anesthesia for children is available. This facility is used for children who are too young to cooperate for dental procedures and mentally and physically challenged children. Equipments like Boyle's apparatus, Pulse Oximeter are available in the department. Apex locator with pulp tester - To determine the root canal length electronically and to perform pulp vitality test. This equipment helps to reduce the number of radiographs taken for children and thereby reduces the radiographic exposure. Main operation theatre in the General Hospital for performing lengthy dental procedures in medically compromised children. Endodontic pressure syringe - This pressure syringe helps to achieve perfect root canal fillings in primary and permanent teeth.

Department Activities

The department of Oral Medicine and Radiology is concerned with the diagnosis and medical management of patients with disorders involving the oral cavity, salivary glands, temporo-mandibular joint and their radiological evaluation and interpretation. We create awareness, educate and motivate patients against the harmful effects of tobacco and its products for prevention and early diagnosis of its related oral disorders. To provide free dental treatment for the under-privileged and marginalized group of society. Conducting free dental treatment camps in areas where there is no accessibility to dental care.
